PENDER COUNTY - A flood warning remains in effect for the Northeast Cape Fear River, and the flooded roads and yards are forcing many people to use boats instead of cars to get around.
In a neighborhood on River Bend Road, east of Burgaw, mailboxes were completely submerged, while street signs peeked out from the water.
The flooding has health officials worried about polluted well water.
Still, they say they have tested about 70 wells since last week's heavy rains, and only a few were contaminated.
Officials urge residents to refrain from drinking the well water until it has been tested.
