-- Parking lots at stores across Wilmington were packed with cars at 5:00 Friday morning. That can mean only mean one thing. The holiday shopping season is offically underway.
A crowd of about 150 people flooded into J.C. Penney at Independence Mall trying to be the first to get some bargains.
Next door, Belk opened its doors at 4:45 a.m. to get an even earlier start to the holiday shop-a-thon.
Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Circuit City and Target were among others that offered deals to the early birds. It's all part of "Black Friday" when retailers across the nation have one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
Some people say it's more than a good deal. It's about starting the holiday season.
A lot of deals will continue until Christmas Eve, as will the long store hours. Independence Mall will open earlier and close later. It will open at 7:00 a.m. for the rest of this holiday weekend.
