PENDER COUNTY -- It's been a relatively rain free day in our area, but that doesn't mean the risk of flooding has gone away.
The rain over the past couple of days has put the northeast Cape Fear River near its crest in parts of Pender and Duplin Counties.
It's expected to be above flood stage over the next few days and into next week.
The American Red Cross is encouraging people who live near the river to be careful. Officials say to check local weather updates frequently.
Also, if your house is prone to flooding they say move furniture and valuables to higher floors. Plus, keep documents such as birth certificates and insurance polices in waterproof containers.
