-- Traffic should be flowing more smoothly around the site of Wilmington's latest sewage leak. Pine Grove Drive is back open.
Crews finished making permanent repairs on a broken sewer line near Hewlett's Creek Tuesday morning, but they had to get the machinery out of the area before the road could reopen.
Part of the Northeast Interceptor sewer line broke near Pine Grove Drive Sunday. More than half a million gallons of raw sewage leaked into the swampy area near Hewlett's Creek.
Officals say while the leak was substantial, it could have been much worse. Four million gallons a day go through that pipe.
Wilmington City Council members voted Tuesday night to spend several million dollars to improve the pump stations near the sight of the spill.
