It's Thanksgiving week, a time to reflect and give thanks for all of the blessings we have received throughout the year. It's also the official start of the holiday shopping season.
Unfortunately, there are a number of families in our viewing area who are suffering economic hardship this year, and that's why we're happy to once again hold our annual Holiday Smiles Toy Drive. We first started collecting toys right after Hurricane Floyd hit Southeastern North Carolina in 1999. Since then, our efforts have resulted in donations of more than $200,000 worth of toys and clothing items to the Salvation Army.
This year, we have more than 50 locations serving as collection sites throughout New Hanover, Pender, Brunswick, Bladen and Columbus counties. All of the items collected will be given to the Salvation Army which already has a list of families in need.
Remember, it's the season of giving, so when you're out shopping, pick up an extra toy and drop it off at one of our collection sites. Every toy collected will brighten the holidays for children less fortunate than our own.
That's what we think, tell us what you think.
