Riegelwood Not Classified as Federal Disaster Area
RIEGELWOOD -- Governor Mike Easley said Friday the state is taking immediate action to help the tornado victims. He took an aerial tour of the storm ravaged area to survey the damage, and he met with emergency workers.
He says the damage in Riegelwood is not widespread enough to qualify as a federal disaster area. But victims may qualify for federal loans through the Small Business Administration at very low interest rates.
Storm damage assessment teams have been dispatched across the state to provide assistance and help people get their lives back in order. There are also squads of law enforcement officers to protect the property in the damaged areas.
