NEW HANOVER CO.
-- The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office will now have a bird's eye view for solving cases.
Local businessman Scott Gerow owns a helicopter. He is donating his time to fly the chopper for the sheriff's department when they need help.
Sheriff Sid Causey says the helicopter is especially useful in the county's Project Lifesaver Program. The program provides tracking bracelets for Alzheimer's patients. They say those bracelets are easier to track in the air.
Gerow says he will try to be available anytime the sheriff's department needs his helicopter, and he'll fly it for free. Sheriff's deputies say the gas will be paid for with money seized from drug dealers.
