When it opened, it was named Hecht's, but the store was sold to the company that operates Macy's and the name changed. Now the company that owns Macy's has swapped the Wilmington store for another one in Tennessee owned by the Belk department store chain.
That means Macy's becomes Belk, with no word yet on what that means for the Belk store a mile or so away on Military Cutoff.
Macy's is expected to begin clearance sales shortly after Christmas. It will close in February and reopen soon after as Belk.
