Beach Renourishment Referendum Rejected

N. TOPSAIL BEACH -- Residents will have to find a new way to get the sand back on their beaches.

Beach renourishment was on the ballot Tuesday for residents in North Topsail Beach. Unofficial results show voters rejected a $34 million referendum for beach renourishment. The vote was 277 to 73.

If the referendum was approved, oceanfront homeowners would have had to repay 80% of the cost of widening the eleven-mile beachfront in the town.
