WILMINGTON -- New Hanover County authorities are searching for a man accused of strangling his wife at the couple's home.
Dr. Joseph Arena, 51, was an emergency room physician at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Sheriff's deputies say Arena choked his wife Tuesday morning until she was unconscious, then left her body in the driveway.
When the wife woke up later, her husband was gone. She has been treated for her injuries.
Arena had worked at the hospital since 1998. He faces charges of assault on a female, felony strangulation, communicating threats and attempted first-degree murder.
Arena has been suspended from New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Pender Memorial Hospital, where he also practiced.
If you see Arena, please call any law enforcement agency.
Authorities have also found drugs hidden in car batteries, tires and iced tea cans.
