WILMINGTON -- A groundbreaking ceremony Thursday put a development plan into motion for the future of the Taylor Homes site near Downtown Wilmington.
Housing authority and city officials shoveled chunks of dirt Thursday, the first step towards turning Taylor Homes into a $20 million multifamily complex and senior center.
The new homes will feature a 96 room senior housing facility and a 48 room family complex.
Officials say this is only phase one in an attempt to modernize Wilmington's public housing, and it's happening more quickly than expected.
The housing authority says the next stop will be Nesbit Court. They hope to demolish and rebuild that housing complex sometime next year.
