Election Day is next Tuesday and your vote is important. In the federal and state races it's Mike McIntyre versus Shirley Davis for U.S. Representative; Julia Boseman versus Al Roseman and R.C. Soles versus Bill Fairley for State Senate seats; Thomas Wright versus Frankie Roberts, Bonner Stiller versus Allan Dameron, and Dewey Hill versus Ray Gilbert for State House seats.
There are also a number of non-partisan state judicial races including: Supreme Court Chief Justice, Associate Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals judges, and District Court judge.
But equally as important, there are county-wide races throughout our viewing area for district attorneys, sheriffs, county commissioners, Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors, and the Board of Education.
WECT has partnered with the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce to air candidate forums for two of those races, the New Hanover County Board of Education Forum on Saturday, November 4 at 7:00pm and The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners Forum on Sunday, November 5 at 10:30am. We're making these forums available to be aired on Time Warner Cable channel 4 and Charter Communications Cable channel 5 on various days and times until Election Day.
In Pender County there are a number of water bond referendums, and in Oak Island there's a referendum on building height. So you have some homework to do before you go to the polls on Election Day, but it will be time well-spent because elections aren't only about the candidates. They're about you, your family, your life, your community, and your future. So be sure to vote next Tuesday. If you don't, you'll have no right to complain about the outcome.
