North Carolina Starts Campaign to Educate Internet Safety

CHARLOTTE -- The FBI office in Charlotte is heading up a campaign to educate parents, teachers and students on internet safety.

The campaign is called "Safe Online Surfing."

A website is set up for middle school students to log on and take an online scavenger hunt and survey, that teaches them tips about making up an online pen name, and not sharing information with strangers.

But the FBI says the key to the campaign is the participation from parents.

The SOS campaign has just begun in North Carolina.  You can go to fbi-sos.org to take part in the campaign.

The FBI is hoping that local schools will take the lead and get their students to register.
