Gunshot Wound Sends Wilmington Man to Hospital

WILMINGTON -- One man is in the hospital after an argument on Clay Street led to gunshots Saturday.

"An individual in the area heard a group of subjects arguing," said Sgt. S. T. Vincent of the Wilmington Police Department. "It escalated to a pushing match and eventually (witnesses) heard shots fired and a vehicle left the area."

Neighbors say they heard four shots, immediatly took cover and then called 911.

An unidentified black male is in the New Hanover Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police are still trying to piece together what happened at the 400 block of Clay Street, but they said a witness saw a white Lincoln with a crooked front license plate speed away from the scene.
