New Hanover County Gets Rid of Hazardous Material

WILMINGTON -- People from all over New Hanover and surrounding counties came together Saturday to get rid of their hazardous material.

Volunteers dumped gallons of motor oil into bins and hundreds of paint cans into Dumpsters.

Many people also disposed of electronics, like televisions and computers.

The county's hazmat team takes the items and makes sure they are disposed correctly, without damaging groundwater or the environment.

Despite working with flammable liquids, pesticides and piles of paint, volunteers of all ages were excited to help out.

If you have any hazardous material to dump, the New Hanover Waste Department asks you to call them so they can ensure you dispose of it properly.
