Construction Makes Commute on US-17 a Hassle

NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- Despite the opening of the I-140 Bypass that connects US-17 to I-40 and onto US-421, drivers still see delays at the Pender-New Hanover county line.

Paving and turn lane construction on US-17 from Porters Neck Road to north of Scotts Hill Loop Road still slows the commute for many drivers.

Backups often stretch out for more than a mile during early morning commutes, but transportation crews are working to bring the construction to an end.

Some drivers said the constant lane switches were confusing, and more notice needs to be given to help them deal with the backups.

DOT crews aim for the work to be finished by early November.
