-- The town put up brand-new "no parking" signs just this week, banning cars and trucks on the West Salisbury Street side of the grassy median.
During the height of summer, the grassy area is usually full of cars, and the aldermen are concerned about traffic safety. Cars also block fire hydrants or damage the oak trees.
Most residents seemed to support banning parking on the busy Salisbury side of the median, but they want to allow cars to park on the quiet Pelican Drive side. They got their wish.
The Board of Aldermen decided Thursday night not to ban parking on the West Pelican side of the median. Instead, they are exploring other options, such as planting shrubs to divide the median into a parking and no parking zone.
