Third Graders Take Tour Through Port City

WILMINGTON

-- Some students from Freeman Elementary School took a special tour of Wilmington Thursday.

The Tar Heels Walking Program takes every third grader in the county on a tour through the city to teach them about the history of Wilmington. Stops include the Cotton Exchange, Thalian Hall, the post office and even a meet and greet with Mayor Bill Saffo.

Teachers and students agree it's a fun learning experience. The program is now in it's 16th year in the county.
