Alzheimer's Patient's Home Destroyed by Fire

WILMINGTON -- An elderly woman with Alzheimer's disease faces more than just medical challenges. When she is released from the hospital at the end of the week, she will have no home to return to.

Myrtle Louise Buck, 92, was in the hospital Tuesday when her home was damaged by a severe electrical fire. The home, off Greenville Loop Road, is covered with ashes.

Buck's family said they do not know where she will live when she is discharged from the hospital Friday.

"It's an extremely emotional and very difficult situation," said Pam Dickens, Buck's granddaughter. "My grandma has a lot of treasures here. This is where we wanted her to be."

Buck requires 24-hour care. Her house is currently uninhabitable.
