WILMINGTON -- Critics of plans for a downtown Wilmington convention center prepared for a rally on Wednesday.
The group called Americans for Prosperity planned to rally Wednesday evening at the Kohl's Custard Shop in Monkey Junction.
The group said building the convention center will plunge the city into debt and force taxes higher.
The group planned to launch a petition drive Wednesday night, aimed at convincing city council to put the project to a city-wide vote.
"It's something the people do not want," said Joyce Fernando of Americans for Prosperity. "I feel like a referendum will show the city council it is unwanted and people will not be stuck with the losses."
