DUPLIN COUNTY -- A farm worker in Duplin County was found dead after falling into a silo on Sunday. Investigators are looking into what may have caused the accident.
Jones, 73, of Pender County, worked for Nash Johnson and Sons Farm outside Warsaw. He appeared to have fallen into a silo and died Sunday afternoon. Nash Johnson and Sons was closed on Monday as multiple investigations went on at the farm.
It is unclear how Jones fell into the silo. Investigators and farm officials did not comment on how the accident might have happened. However, authorities do not suspect foul play.
Jones' family became worried after Jones did not go home for lunch Sunday afternoon. Rescue workers started searching for Jones at around 4 p.m. Sunday. After ten hours of searching, rescue workers found Jones' body at the bottom of a silo at the farm.
OSHA representatives were on the scene of the accident on Monday to meet with Nash Johnson officials and to determine the cause of the accident. They expect a final report of their investigations in four to six weeks.
