BOLIVIA -- The Brunswick County Sheriff Department hopes a new software program will help keep children safe from predators on the internet.
Sheriff Ron Hewitt and District Attorney Rex Gore introduced the "Computer Cop" disc Thursday afternoon.
More than 1,700 discs will be made available for county parents.
The software scans the user's computer and looks at web sites visited by children, and flags keywords that could be used by internet predators.
Sheriff Hewitt said that the program was paid for by money seized from drug busts.
The disc can be picked up at the Brunswick County Sheriff Department, or through the Communities in Schools office.
The Sheriff Department is asking that anyone receiving a disc to provide their e-mail address so that it can make sure it does not hand out duplicates.
