WILMINGTON -- About 70 women teed off at The Cape golf course Thursday for the annual Golf for the Cure fundraiser. They played to raise money for breast cancer research.
While the women kept score, making par at each hole was not as important as the money they raised for the Susan B. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.
Many of the women golfing today signed up for the event because they knew someone who suffered from the disease.
"I think they're playing for their mothers, sisters, themselves, family and friends they know who've survived this terrible disease," said Lynn Martin, who took part in the fundraiser. "I know I am -- I lost my mother."
