WILMINGTON -- An ice seal that washed ashore on Wrightsville Beach last week was put down Tuesday night.
Virginia's state veterinarian ordered the seal to be killed after it bit an employee at the Virginia Aquarium, where it was taken after being discovered on Wrightsville Beach last Friday.
The seal is now being tested for rabies. It was one of the several to have strayed far from their normal cold and icy habitat and wash up along the U.S. east coast.
The 12-year-old victim says the suspect grabbed her in a bear hug and began dragging her down the sidewalk.
