Private Schools See Increase in Enrollment

WILMINGTON -- While the New Hanover County School District is dealing with smaller numbers in the classroom than expected, private schools in the area are seeing an increase in enrollment.

Both Cape Fear Academy and Wilmington Christian Academy have at least ten percent more students this fall than last year.

There are 50 more students enrolled at Cape Fear and about a hundred more at Wilmington Christian. Saint Mary's Catholic School in downtown Wilmington has an increase of 25 students from last year.

School administrators are not pinning the growth on one factor, saying that their stability and curriculum is appealing to both longtime residents and new arrivals to the county.
