BURGAW -- A new program aims to give people the knowledge and skills to help their neighbors in a natural disaster.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program teaches people in the community survival skills so they can immediately begin helping with damage control, should disasters strike.
"This training will teach people some basic first aid. It will teach people some very basic firefighting," said Eddie King, Director of Emergency in Pender County, "and it will give them the skills they need to take care of themselves until that advanced care arrives."
The next CERT meeting will take place on September 19 at 7 p.m. at the Pender County Library.
