PENDER COUNTY -- Health officials tested well water in Pender County Monday, to make sure that the floodwater did not contaminate the drinking water used by residents who depended on wells.
The Northeast Cape Fear River was still above flood stage east of Burgaw on Monday, the it has receded enough to allow experts to check home wells for bacteria contamination.
It would take four to five days to get the results back, and it could take several more days until officials could get into some areas, due to the high water.
