Shelter Opens in Willard for Flood Evacuees

WILLARD -- American Red Cross opened a shelter in Willard to help the people forced out of their homes by the flood from Tropical Storm Ernesto.

The shelter is in the gymnasium at Penderlea School.

It had been hosting one Duplin County family, but the Red Cross is ready to help more people.

As many as 140 people from Duplin County were evacuated since the storm.  Many families had been staying with relatives.  Others found temporary housing at motels in Burgaw.
