PENDER COUNTY --
Floodwaters in Pender County continued to go down, but officials said that drivers should not hit the road yet.
Department of Transportation workers said folks needed to stay off roads with standing water for a few more days.
So far, most residents were patient and resisting the urge to plow through.
Workers piling rocks onto a washed out road said it was just not wise to take chances.
"We don't know what's there. There could be that there's no road there," said DOT spokesperson Glenn Crews. "You don't know if you can't see it, and sometimes you don't know what may be there."
Crews said the roads should be safe to drive on within the next few days.
