NEW HANOVER COUNTY --
Four people were taken to the hospital after an accident Tuesday night on Highway 421.
Authorities said a car driving on Highway 421 South hydroplaned and crossed the center line. It collided with a vehicle driving in the opposite direction.
There were two people in each car. Everyone was taken to the hospital.
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle that crossed the center line has the most serious injuries. A nine-year-old boy was a passenger in the car. He sustained only minor injuries.
There is no word yet on the two people in the other car. But authorities do not believe their injuries are life-threatening.
Authorities shut down one of the northbound lanes on Highway 421 for about an hour Tuesday night to clean up the scene.
