WILMINGTON -- UNCW is receiving federal funds to help prevent violent behavior among students.
Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-NC 7th District) presented a check to the school for more than $200,000.
The money will be distributed over two years to help create a violence prevention model, as well as address violence in student relationships.
UNCW Police Chief David Donaldson said having extra programs in place would help their department keep violence in check.
The grant will also designate a university employee to address men's role in preventing violence.
The university had been increasing security on campus and made efforts to check potential applicants since the murder of two students in 2004.
