NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- Parents received a letter warning students that profanity, bad behavior and dress code violations would not be tolerated in New Hanover County schools. On the first day of school, teachers and principals were encouraged to be extra tough.
"I think it's good to see it as a way of reinforcing that we're all on the same page and that we're all on the same team," said Dave Spencer, principal at Hoggard High School. "Make it a safe opportunity to learn and that letter is going to get folks appreciating that a little bit more."
Students and parents are also reminded to leave the cell phones and iPods at home. Those devices will not be allowed in classes.
