Dogs of all shapes and sizes were feeling the wind through their fur at the grand opening of Wilmington's first leash-free dog park.
The park at Empie is the brainchild of some local dog lovers and the City of Wilmington.
Private citizens and local businesses donated $20,000 raised over the past year to pay for the fences and watering holes.
Mayor Bill Saffo says the park is a welcome addition for Wilmington's four-legged friends.
"For over 200 years, Wilmington has needed a dog park. These are men's and women's best friends and this park will give them a place to run free and it will better the community," Saffo says.
Officials say owners must carry a leash and no dog toys are allowed.
