WILMINGTON -- Three children were at home Tuesday when lightning struck their home.
Nannette Creech, 16, was playing board games with her sisters when they heard a loud noise. Lightning struck the home and bolted through an upstairs bedroom.
Pieces of the home including wooden panels and bricks flew from into the yard. Some pieces even ended up on the neighbor's property. The lightning strike also fried electrical wires throughout the house.
Creech says she and her sisters were terrified, but able to think quickly.
"When we first saw it was smoking, we just wanted to save all our pets. I just pushed them all in the laundry room."
Several other homes in the area, including one in Wrightsville Beach, also suffered damage during Tuesday's storms.
