I-140 Bypass Opening Just in Time for Holiday Weekend

JUNE 29, 2006 -- Drivers in our area will soon have an easier time traveling across the counties.

The I-140 bypass is set to open Friday. This bypass will allow drivers from Pender and northern New Hanover County to access Interstate 40 and U.S. 421 without sitting in the traffic on busy roads like Market Street.

The D.O.T. is hoping the bypass will relieve the growing congestion in the area of Market Street between Ogden and Porters Neck.

The opening comes just in time for the Fourth of July weekend when out-of-town travelers will crowd the area.

Despite another route, highway engineers are still warning all drivers to be cautious during the holiday weekend.
