JUNE 15, 2006 -- New Hanover County has a brand new multi-million dollar jail, but jail officials hope the expensive facility is not tested by strong storms this hurricane season.
The sheriff's department says the county jail has been built to withstand a Category 2 storm or winds up to 110 mph.
While jail officials are confident the concrete structure would withstand stronger winds, plans are in place to move the more than 500 inmates in the event a major storm is headed this way.
