Economist Predicts Boom for Wilmington

JUNE 14, 2006 -- A new fiscal year is just around the corner and forecasters are predicting another successful year for our area.

Economist and UNCW Professor Dr. William Hall reported his annual economic forecast for our region, including New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender Counties.

Hall projects growth by nine to ten percent as a result of the booming service and retail industry and stronger tourism. But this is all dependent on a couple of factors, including what this hurricane season may bring.

Hall also predicts a boom for the downtown Wilmington area thanks to PPD. He says the convention center will prove healthy for next year's economy.
