Students Save Tree at Local High School

JUNE 13, 2006 -- Students at Topsail High School don't want to see a beautiful magnolia tree knocked down.

School officials planned to take down the tree to make room for a mobile classroom. However, efforts by the students to save the tree have paid off.

The group showed their concerns by tying yellow ribbons on the tree limbs, chaining a sign to the tree asking for it to be saved,  and staying with it throughout the day.

Monday afternoon, they learned that instead of being knocked down, the tree will be safely moved.
