Local School Children Make Quilts for Premature Babies

JUNE 5, 2006 -- A group of local 5th graders are learning to sew and getting a lesson in kindness at the same time.

Throughout the spring semester, 5th graders from College Park Elementary School in Wilmington learned how to sew quilts. Together, they made 20 new colorful blankets.

Instead of bringing them home, the children are giving the quilts away to the neonatal unit at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. They will be used for taking care of premature babies.

Organizers say it's a great way for kids to learn to give.
