Kids Create Sand Sculptures at Sun Fun Festival

JUNE 4, 2006 -- The 55th Annual Sun Fun Festival is known for its beach beauties and big parade. However, there's also some time carved out for the kids.

Many young ones took to the sand on Sunday, racing against the clock to create sand sculptures. Some of the sand sculptures included castles, ships, and even mermaids.

The artists had one hour to complete their masterpieces. Some worked alone. Others teamed up to finish the task. And after they dropped their shovels, some walked away with medals.

The Sun Fun Festival wraps up Monday with a kids fair from 4:00-7:00 pm at Surfside Beach.
