Myrtle Beach Pavilion Remembered at Sun Fun Festival

JUNE 1, 2006 -- Organizers in Myrtle Beach added the final touches Thursday before kicking off the 55th Annual Sun Fun Festival.  The festival starts Friday with the arrival of some of this year's invited celebrities.

The streets are becoming more congested as people begin to add to the summer excitement. But for new visitors and old friends, there is a bittersweet feeling this summer.  As many celebrate the Sun Fun Festival, the area where many of the events are taking place, the Myrtle Beach Pavilion, is presiding over the festivities for the last time.   The Pavilion is closing at the end of this season and it's presence has played an important role in almost every visitors' trip to Myrtle Beach.  So as the fun begins during the festival, many people may hold good memories in their heart of the rides and attractions at the Pavilion.

Other people will put the time left with the Pavilion to good use. The Chamber of Commerce says they'll use this summer to extend the memories of the Pavilion, holding concerts and other events through Labor Day to say goodbye to the landmark.
