JUNE 1, 2006 -- The first of the month means bills and sometimes a paycheck, but this month it has a more significant meaning. June 1 is the start of hurricane season.
Even in an area that could be a prime hurricane target, residents sometimes let the start of the season slip their mind. Hurricane forecasters are expecting another active hurricane season, with the east coast seeing an increased risk of storms making landfall. With the above average season here, residents we spoke to were on opposite ends of the spectrum, either completely prepared, or care-free about the threat of storms.
