Doctors Have Long Waiting Lists for Breast Implants

MARCH 30, 2006 -- Let's face it, whether you agree with it or not, big breasts are big business. Women are spending millions of dollars each year for breast implants. Teenage girls are even getting them as high school graduation gifts from their parents.

But it's not always about the look. For some women it comes down to self-esteem.

Women of all ages are getting breast implants and doctors say the demand is growing. Local doctors say they have long waiting lists of patients who want to have the procedure done.

While most women choose to have the procedure done for cosmetic reasons, others do it for self-esteem or for reconstruction after breast cancer.

Dr. Kenneth White, a local plastic surgeon, says whether you agree with the procedure or not, the impact it can have on a person's self-esteem is undeniable.
