MAY 28, 2006 -- The Coast Guard was out patrolling the waters on Memorial Day weekend, the start of the summer boating season.
WECT Reporter Nicole Ferguson rode along with the Coast Guard as they performed routine safety checks along the Intracoastal Waterway.
Officers pulled over boaters randomly to make sure they had everything they needed on board. From life jackets and fire extinguishers, to flares and whistles, officers checked for it all. Failure to have the required equipment on board meant a ticket.
Besides keeping the proper safety equipment aboard your boat, the Coast Guard reminds people it's important to stay sober when driving a boat.
