Three Honored For Saving Woman's Life in Wrightsville Beach
MAY 25, 2006 -- Two Wrightsville Beach police officers and a good samaritan are honored for saving a woman's life. On March 18, a boat crashed into a jetty on the south end of Wrightsville Beach. A woman from Texas who was navigating the boat didn't see the submerged hazard and was badly injured by the force of the collision.
Corporal Todd Vernon along with officer Jason Parker and a surfer, Clint Henry, pulled her from the wreckage.
"She was completely helpless. She couldn't do anything for herself. The vessel was taking on large amounts of water. It's just in a situation like that, instinct takes over and you have to do whatever you can to help this person," says Vernon.
Vernon and the other two men were honored Thursday at the Wrightsville Beach Town Hall.
