New Hanover County Gets First Rabies Case

MAY 24, 2006 -- Nearly five months into the year and New Hanover County has seen its first rabies case.  Test results are back on a fox killed after deputies received a call about a fox attack on Carolina Beach Road last weekend. The results were positive for rabies.

Rabies can be transmitted through bites or saliva contact.  Make sure your dogs and cats are vaccinated. The county gets an average of about eight rabies cases every year.
