Wilmington Teen Dies in Car Crash

MAY 18, 2006 -- Drag racing may be to blame for a fatal accident that killed a 17-year-old passenger.  It happened around 10:00 Wednesday night on Eastwood Road.

Witnesses say a red Acura and white SUV were racing. The Acura then lost control, drove into oncoming traffic, and collided with a Toyota Four-Runner.  Seventeen-year-old Wilmington resident Sasha Wilson was riding in the passenger seat of that Acura, and was thrown from the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilson was a sophomore at Hoggard High School.  Hoggard's principal says counselors are on hand as the school deals with this tragedy.

The driver of the red Acura remains in the hospital.  Wilmington police say charges are pending.
