No Charges Against Animal Shelter

MAY 17, 2006 -- The interaction between animal activists and the Columbus County Animal Shelter is far from neighborly, but at this point, there won't be a court battle.

A fight broke out last week at the shelter when two men allegedly assaulted activist Monroe Jones. Wednesday, Jones said he will not press charges, even though last week he was considering it.

Jones and the two men got into a scuffle when Jones confronted the shelter director. There has been animosity from animal activists over the way the shelter puts dogs and cats to sleep in a homemade gas chamber.
