Controversy Surrounds Columbus County Animal Shelter

MAY 12, 2006 -- More controversy surrounds the Columbus County Animal Shelter.

As we've been reporting, members of the Humane Society are criticizing the shelter's use of a gas chamber to kill animals.

Now they say the shelter is selling the bodies of dead cats. To try to prove that, some of the members staked out the shelter on Friday.

They say they have video tape of dead cats being loaded onto a truck.

When the person with the camera tried to get a shot of the license plate, they say there was an altercation.

No one was seriously hurt, but Sheriff's Deputies did take a report. Since neither side wants to press charges, that report says case closed.
