Section of Land to be Made a Park in Oak Island

MAY 11, 2006 -- A special spot in Oak Island is safe after the town council spared it Wednesday night. The Oak Island town council voted to officially make "The Compound" a town park. The section of land was originally going to be sold, but Oak Island residents petitioned the town to keep it. They said the oak trees on the undeveloped land need to be preserved. The new park will be named after Hannon Templeton who helped secure land for Oak Island in the past. Templeton is 84 and lives in Southport.
